Jordi Vergés Riart

He earned his degree as a pianist under the training of Josep M. Raja at the Conservatory of Tarragona. Later, feeling attracted by the organ, he commenced his studies at the Municipal Conservatory in Barcelona with Professor Jordi Alcaraz and, under the guidance of Montserrat Torrent, he completed Middle and High grades of the piano, unanimously receiving an Award of Honour and High Honours. Subsequently, he graduated as an organ teacher.

In 1986, he won the top organ prize in the Standing Competition for Young Artists of young Spanish musicians, celebrated in the church of Santa María de Maó (Menorca). He has been an honorary member of the Spanish National Youth Orchestra (JONDE) and received an award from the R. Parramón foundation in Barcelona.

He furthered his studies under Professor Hans Van Nieuwkoop at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, where he continued to perfect his organ repertoire with Pieter van Dijk and Jaques van Oortmerssen and took part in different recital courses with M. Torrent, M. Radulescu, L.F. Tagliavini, etc.

He has performed many recitals in Spain, Europe and the USA, and has been invited to prestigious international music festivals.

In 2009, he took part in various concerts and in a presentation organised by the Organ Department of the University of Washington and the Western Early Keyboard Association Conference celebrated in Tacoma (Seattle, USA).

With fellow writer Fina Anglès, he co-authored the book “The organs of Tarragona and the Terres de l’Ebre”, which was published by the town council of Tarragona in 2013.

One of his most ambitious projects was co-ordinating the rebuilding process of the main organ in Tarragona Cathedral.

He has produced recordings for R.N.E., “Catalunya Música”, Loft Recordings (Seattle, USA), “La Bottega Discantica” (Milan, Italy) and Audiovisuals de Sarrià (Barcelona).

He is currently an organ professor at the Professional Conservatory of Tarragona, and is the resident organist of Tarragona Cathedral.
