More than a traditional piano music concert, Piano Solo is a tribute to the art of improvisation. The moment Stefano Bollani steps onto the stage for his one-man show, anything can happen. There is no playlist or concert program offered to follow the order of the songs performed. Instead, the audience is drawn into an adventure which is different every evening: a breathtaking trip through musical horizons which only seem to be far away.
Stefano Bollani might pass from Bach to The Beatles, from Stravinsky to Brazilian beats, with improvised side-trips into Pop or Italian music from the forties. Laugher and emotions are evoked during this truly amazing flow of musical awareness.
One thing is certain: the audience decides the encore at the end of the concert. Bollani diligently takes note of and performs the requested pieces on the spot – an unpredictable medley in which virtuosity rubs shoulders with irreverence.
